Why visit Nyhavn
The word Nyhavn means “new harbour″. If you have watched The Danish Girl, then you might already be able to relate to Nyhavn. This 17th-century waterfront, originally called "Den Nye Havn”, was notorious back at the time when sailors from all over the world gathered to relish the famous ale sold in pubs. Today, the harbour is very international and busy with music and cultural activities. Many cosy restaurants along the port offer delicious Danish meals. I headed to Nyhavn searching for some sweet dish options. While I was enjoying delicious Churros, I came up with ideas to pep up any photo collage. So, let me quickly summarize below 3 super cute Nyhavn shots for your insta grid.
Location on Google Maps: Nyhavn
Motif 1
Crispy, crunchy churros, chocolate dipped pancakes, fresh gelato, soft wafflesticks: you name it, Nyhavn has got it. You must honour your palate by trying these treats when visiting this gorgeous harbour. Nyhavn and the area around it are picturesque. You might want to walk around and explore. The best part is, if you are in this area, then you are never far away from a dessert parlour. So, go indulge in your favourite sweet dish. Well, if you do get yourself a treat, then make sure you click it right in front of the historic houses of Nyhavn like I did.
Motif 2
I am sure just like any traveler, even you love souvenirs. Well, I am a big fan of souvenirs and have been collecting them since I started traveling in 2013. Souvenirs make for very adorable gifts for your family and friends. I like souvenirs that give exact picture of the landmarks in that city. And as you can see in my shot, I have collected a magnet that is accurately depicting the iconic Nyhavn houses especially Nyhavn 17 house under which the world’s oldest tattoo studio is located. The streets that lead from the central station of Copenhagen to Nyhavn are full of souvenir shops. Just get into one of them and you find many magnets portraying colourful houses. So, in case you decide to buy one, then make the moment memorable by taking a photo of it with the actual Nyhavn houses in the background.
Motif 3
Is there someone out there who doesn’t like selfies ? Yes, its me ! I think I am the only person on this planet who does not like phone selfies. An advantage is that I can avoid unnecessary wastage of my phone memory. However, I find it extremely cute when clicking an almost-selfie pic of me using my professional camera. The most impressive part is the bokeh effect. In the almost-selfie that I took, not only the Nyhavn houses, but also the nordic traditional boats can be seen, out-of-focus though. Manage to find a quiet place without fellow-travellers. In that case, the background in your phone photo will be clean making your almost-selfie perfect.
Bonus: Self-Portraits when Traveling Solo To Copenhagen
I mostly travel solo as unlike bae I have the opportunity to work remotely. One of the challenging parts of traveling solo is clicking your own photos. I always carry a tripod along. My tripod has been my travel partner for ever and with its help, I have taken some of my most epic shots. When you are in nature, taking a photo using tripod is easy. But when in city, taking a photo this way becomes a bit clumsy. People constantly stare at you, or there are pedestrians who accidentally get captured in your photo because of which you have to re-do the whole pose. That’s why I always visit landmarks either early in the morning or late in the evening so that I avoid crowds as much as possible. Nyhavn’s houses are so stunning, I did not want to miss out on a photo of me standing in front of them. My Nyhavn self-portrait below was shot on my tripod early one morning. I could take as many photos as I wanted without any hurdles. My photo came out vivid and I was more than happy to make this pic a part of my instagram grid. Leave a comment below narrating how you take your photos when traveling solo.
Summary
Nyhavn is Copenhagen’s biggest attraction. No wonder why Nyhavn is found on souvenirs and postcards all over Copenhagen. By using simple photo motifs, we can create our own postcard-worthy photos.
