Enjoy the majestic volcano while driving around Tenerife

What's so special about the Teide ?
The most famous attraction of Tenerife is the Mount Teide. This volcano is Spain’s highest mountain known for casting a huge shadow. The Teide National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited national parks of Europe. As the world’s third highest island volcano, Mount Teide is actually a layered volcano that got formed after successive eruptions millions of years ago. The last time Teide erupted was in November 1909. If you have chosen to plan your next vacation to Tenerife, then let us discover some of the most beautiful Teide vista points and get lost together.
Best way to access Teide viewpoints
A great Tenerife vacation begins with renting a car. Driving around the volcano will give you a chance to admire extraordinary landscapes. There are incredible views along the Teide roads that will leave you speechless. Try to be very careful while driving here, especially in the dark, since many of the the roads are very narrow with very few or no road lights. I highly recommend renting a car from a local rental company. Do not miss driving on the roads numbered TF-21 and TF-24 that cross the island centrally through the Teide National park. TF-21 and TF-24 are your secrets to the best photography spots on Tenerife. The clouds will follow you as you drive higher and at some point you will be above the clouds. Some parts of the Teide roads pass through hardened lava fields. All along the Teide roads, you will find many parking spaces at locations that offer grandiose views of the volcanic terrain. Simply take a small break from driving and hop out to capture some of the best views of the island. Enough said, now let's take a look at my top seven Teide viewpoints.
1. Roques de García
These impressive rock formations are a popular tourist destination on Tenerife. The most famous one among these stone monuments is the Roque Cinchado which is disintegrating more quickly on its lower part and is destined to collapse under its own weight. Irrespective of its bizarre shape, the Roque Cinchado together with Mount Teide in backdrop forms the most picturesque location of Tenerife.

2. Mirador La Cruz de Juan Fernández
This spot offers a tourist free view over the entire north coast of Tenerife. Gorgeous cacti, the dramatic coastal line and the high-rising Teide make for an incredible photo point. You can park the car right on the street in front of the Mirador. While I was here, it was quite windy. Although there were reports that it was the Calima wind, I managed to get some good shots of the location.

3. Mirador Azulejos II
From Mirador Azulejos II, one gets rewarding views of the lava fields and Mount Teide. The church Ermita de las Nieves can also be sighted from this location. I was here at sunset when the gorgeous colours over the volcano showed me how small moments can become memories of a lifetime.

4. Mirador de Chipeque
Mirador de Chipeque is a special spot because here not only you get to enjoy the Teide but also the lush-green Tenerife vegetation. The Canarian pine trees have adapted to the harsh weather of the Teide Natural Park. The scene is simply magical because you get to be above the sea of clouds.

5. Llano de Ucanca
Llano de Ucanca plateau is a dry landscape that resembles scene from a sci-fi movie. The beauty of the location is amplified by the unique Teide brooms. The plains of Ucanca is a popular hiking area. Its hiking trails cross rough lava fields with spectacular views of the Roques de García and Mount Teide.

6. Mirador La Tarta
In the Spanish language, “La tarta" means a cake. Mirador La Tarta is called so as it is a unique geological formation made up of several volcanic layers that resemble a layered cake. These layers can be observed on a unique volcanic wall near the parking spot of this vista point. Mount Teide again looks extravagant above the sea of clouds.

7. Mirador de Ayosa
This viewpoint is located in dense Teide mountain vegetation. Mount Teide is seen rising high above the mountain slopes. Additionally, the silhouette of the La Palma island looks dreamy making the spot suitable for admiring romantic sunsets.

Summary
A visit to the Teide National Park is an absolute must. The views will change from barren landscapes to green forest regions and vice-versa. Teide is also one of the perfect location for stargazing because of the lack of light pollution. The best way to experience the island is by renting a car. Being on Tenerife is all about the road journey. Take a long drive on its scenic routes and become an explorer. Many roads will lead you to beautiful Teide viewpoints. And since the Teide roads don’t have traffic jams or traffic lights, there is nothing that can distract you from making the most out of your road trip.
