Stunning Spots Of Whitewashed Ronda

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

Out of the many pueblo blancos (white towns) of Andalusia, Ronda is my favourite. This town is known for its wild gorge, Islamic architecture, medieval cobblestone streets and lush green landscapes around it. It is also the birthplace of modern bullfighting. The El Tajo Gorge, around 120 metres deep, runs through the centre of Ronda and separates the old Moorish part of the town (La Ciudad) from the newer part (El Mercadillo). These two parts of the town are connected by a stunning 200 year old bridge called as Puente Nuevo. There are parts of old Moorish walls around Ronda still in good shape that invite for a pleasant stroll. Are you looking for great photo spots in Ronda for your Andalusian itinerary ? Then in this post, you will find my top three locations that will fit perfect in your photo album.

Table Of Contents

3. Murallas Del Carmen

Murallas Del Carmen is one part of the ancient walls in the Ronda old town. You can take the stairs to the top of the walls from where you get rewarding views of the newer part of the town. A cobbled street from Murallas Del Carmen leads down to the Puente Viejo bridge constructed over the Guadalevín river that flows through the El Tajo Gorge.

2. Mirador de Ronda

From the previous spot that I mentioned, one can enjoy views over the new Ronda town. But for a stunning view of Ronda's old town on the rocky walls of the El Tajo gorge, it is best to be at the Mirador de Ronda viewpoint. The mountains of the Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de Grazalema visible from this spot look impressive especially during sunset. A mini balcony complex here makes the location even more romantic. Since Mirador de Ronda is very popular among tourists, it occasionally attracts street musicians who like to display their art to the relaxed audience.

1. Mirador Puente Nuevo de Ronda

The best view of the 200 year old bridge Puente Nuevo including the waterfall from the Guadalevín River is from a vantage point located below in the El Tajo gorge. From the spot Mirador de María Auxiliadora in the old town, Mirador Puente Nuevo de Ronda can be easily accessed by foot if you follow the partly paved steps down to the gorge. I recommend wearing shoes that aid in secure foothold. The viewing platform is built on a rock and is unsecured. So, one has to exercise some precautions. Again, imho sunset is the best time to photograph this iconic location.
